......CTT......

Many of you out there may have already came across Sew, Mama, Sew! in the blogging world.

I stumbled across it months ago and have been so amazed by the variety of sewing crafts and tutorials that make up this creative blog. There are tutorials on there ranging from aprons to sewing toys to quilts. How fun!

(all of these photos were taken from Sew, Mama, Sew!)

Aren't these things adorable!?!? I can think of several people I would love to make these as gifts for.

Now my friends, this is also a desperate plea and cry for help. I don't know how to sew. I have sewn a total of two pillows and a tree skirt- circles are not my friend. Both of which made me get all nauseous and sweaty the entire time I was sewing them under adult supervision of course! I would LOVE to be able to sew. There is nothing like a handmade gift. It has been a dream of mine to be able to do this.

So, if you are a seamstress out there, where is a good place to start?

Are there any good beginner books or websites?

I have access to a sewing machine- check.

I encourage you to subscribe to this blog and browse around! Sew, Mama, Sew is filled with a ton of handmade things and also has several contributors to the blog. The ideas are endless and filled with style.

Hi Lynsey -

Yes, that website is awesome - their tutorials are great. I'd start with pillows, placemats and the like (a pillow can be as easy as 2 squares sewn together and stuffed). Purses and tote's aren't very hard, and sew mama sew has some great tutorials. Pillowcases made out of vintage linens (or any cotton fabric) are also super easy - just use an existing pillowcase for the pattern. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions!!

hey lynsey,
a book i like a lot is called sew what! skirts. it teaches you how to make simple skirts based on your own measurements, and how to modify for a better fit, how to alter, etc.
i made a skirt for my daughter from this tutorial: http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2006/07/tiered-skirt-tutorial.html

i'm still a beginner, too, but enjoying learning.

good luck!

i took a class in houston through "leisure learning."
it was only four classes (three hours each).
it really helped me be more confident.
i still don't sew anything too complicated, but i understand patterns a little better and feel comfortable with my machine.(i got it at target on sale for $99 and so far it has been exactly what i needed)
maybe one day i'll upgrade if i sew more and more often.
i wish we lived closer, i could help you learn sewing and you could give me some photography tips!

i really want to book a shoot with you (at the farm, if you'll let us) to photograph my kids.
they would love to see the animals.
the new kid is so precious!

oh... and are there any good fabric stores in Brenham or CS?
they usually offer classes.
